Glasgow’s 19th century expansion was largely carried out through encroachment and incorporation, beginning with the Gorbals in the 1820s up to the Second World War. Lenzie, however, was developed as a commuter suburb, linked by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway.
This talk explores that growth and the role of ‘Greek’ Thomson’s last working partner in its development.
