Glasgow 850 Talk: Lenzie - Glasgow’s first commuter suburb?

  • The Mitchell Library North Street Glasgow, Scotland, G3 7DN United Kingdom (map)

Glasgow’s 19th century expansion was largely carried out through encroachment and incorporation, beginning with the Gorbals in the 1820s up to the Second World War. Lenzie, however, was developed as a commuter suburb, linked by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway.

This talk explores that growth and the role of ‘Greek’ Thomson’s last working partner in its development.

Dominic d’Angelo is Chair of The Alexander Thomson Society.
