Doors Open Festival

A number of Thomson-designed buildings will be open during the 2005 Doors Open Festival. 1 Moray Place and the Double Villa are already fully booked, but St Vincent Street Church will be open on Sunday afternoon.

Other Thomson-related events include walking tours of Sauchiehall Street, visits to the CCA (Grecian Buildings), and ATS Chair Dominic will be giving a talk on Thomson at the Festival Hub.

New Board Members

We are delighted to welcome three new Board members, elected at the 18th AGM held on 30th August:
- Tony Burton OBE
- Kathleen Greenwood
- Adam Riley

Zoe MacLennan stood down at this AGM after many years of support. The AGM thanked her for her sterling contribution to the Society, including the development of the three Domestic Building Survey publications and the online Takes on Thomson series.

Glasgow850: Mitchell Library Talks

Our series of weekly talks at the Mitchell Library continues.

The talks planned in September are as follows:
- Saturday 13th: Carol Parry on 'Maister Peter Lowe, surgeon in Glasgow'
- Saturday 27th: Professor Andrew MacKillop on 'Glasgow merchants and the campaign for free trade in  Asia 1813 -1833'
These events are currently on Eventbrite, bookable via the Society's website.

Confirmed events in October are as follows:
- Saturday 4th: Carol Parry on 'John Alston and the Glasgow Asylum for the Blind'
- Saturday 18th: Dr Stephen Mullen on 'Colonial Merchants and the Development of Modern Glasgow'
