ATS Vote In New Chair

The Society are delighted to announce that Dominic d’Angelo has taken over the role of Chair following the end of Scott Abercrombie’s 3 year term. Scott remains on the board of the Society as a trustee.

Dominic d’Angelo was Hon. Secretary of The Alexander Thomson Society from its inception for about ten years, after which he worked for the UK’s Department for International Development in Iraq, India and Afghanistan until 2012. He was based in Afghanistan as a freelance consultant until 2021 and is currently working from Glasgow as a team leader monitoring World Bank-funded humanitarian projects in Afghanistan.

During his time as Secretary, Dominic began researching Alexander Thomson’s family and those of people with whom Thomson was associated. His continuing online research is available to view in the ‘Combination Tree’ at Ancestry.com.

In early 2023, he began publishing a weekly series of free-to-access online articles on the life and works of Alexander Thomson on https://greekthomson.substack.com. In the process, he has identified a previously unrecorded Thomson church in Millport and a house in Skelmorlie, both now demolished, as well as confirming Thomson’s involvement or non-involvement in a number of other buildings (He is happy to take on board corrections and any additional information readers may have).
