Glasgow 850 Talk: Greyfriars, Blackfriars and Deep Fat Fryers: A History of the High Street

  • The Mitchell Library North Street Glasgow, Scotland, G3 7DN United Kingdom (map)

Glasgow began as a brilliantly executed ecclesiastical land-grab. For seven hundred years civic governance, worship, education, justice, medicine, retail, manufacturing, leisure and where most people lived, were all centred on the stretch between Townhead and the Clyde. This talk tells the story of the High Street. It is among the most remarkable of any street, anywhere.

The talk by author and publisher Neil Baxter is in collaboration with the Mediaeval Glasgow Trust and coincides with a new book on Glasagow's High Street.
