Glasgow 850 Talk: The Story of Glasgow in Four Chapters

As part of Glasgow850, throughout 2025, the Mitchell Library, in partnership with The Alexander Thomson Society, is staging a programme of free talks, films and exhibitions reflecting 850 years of the city’s history.

In conjunction with the 2025 St Mungo’s Festival, writer, publisher and historian Neil Baxter recounts the City’s evolution across 850 years and through four major phases that have enabled the ‘Dear Green Place’ to flourish.

Neil has written and edited numerous books including accounts of Mediaeval Glasgow, Glasgow Green and The Trades Hall. He is currently working on the first history of the High Street, where Glasgow began, due to be published in June 2025.

Tickets are free but must be booked online.
